logo”Liburna”- association for breeding and conservation of donkeys as well as preservation of natural cultural heritage is an independent, nonparty, social interest organization gathered by donkey owners and breeders, eminent selection and breeding experts joined with other members of society.

Association’s activity foundation lies in conservation of our origin donkey breeds by planned joining and collaboration of donkey breeders in adoption of breeding aim combined with involvement in implementation of breeding programme. With its effort, Association contributes and is involved in preservation of  overall biodiversity in Croatia, traditional customs and is developing awareness on necessity of sustainable development.

Association’s main aims and activities are:

  • breeding, protection and conservation of origin Croatian coast, Istria and Kvarner donkey breeds as part of natural and cultural heritage;
  • contribution towards preservation of Mediterranean Croatia biodiversity being recognized and revaluated on international level;
  • promoting preservation of natural cultural heritage as important in education and teaching;
  • affiliating with economy (industry, tourism, agriculture) through joined activities on sustainable development;
  • arraigning, in collaboration with other associations, musters, expositions and presentations.

Why Liburna?

Historically, first identified inhabitants of Nothern-adriactic islands and coast by Liburna bay were Liburna people who inhabit the area between rivers Raša and Krka in 2nd millennium BC. They inherited origin Mediterranean culture and were the first Indo-European nation which left material evidence of its existence.
